Food:- In the deep, clear lakes across the river
from Lang's rats have a choice of
Carex, Pot. [Potamogeton] pectinatus, Pot. [Potamogeton] richardsonii,
Myriophyllum, Calla palustris, Hippuris
+ Chara. Are eating the two Potamogetons [underlined]
+ the sedge + neglecting the other species.
Breeding:- Neither of the females taken today
gave any indication of having a second
litter. Each had 7 uterine scars
of the first litter.
Pairing:- in evening, in a series of
burrows (5 entrances) in a steep
grassy bank took 3 ([male symbol] + [female symbol]) adult
rats.
Aug. [August] 8:- Took the same ad [adult] pair + two young 107 + 108
[male symbol]'s in this den. The latter weighed
318.5 gms [grams] + 328.5 gms [grams]. 340mm [millimeters] 345mm [millimeters]
also 3 other young #'s 119, 120, 121 + recaught the
male again in the same trap in evening.
When a squeaking call was given these
young rats quieted down very rapidly +
began to feed. They chose Equisetum arvense [underlined]
