- Glaucous Gull.
Kidliut Bay, Richards Isl. [Island], NWT. [Northwest Territories] July 24, 1947
Visited egg island + found on it a
colony of about 40 prs [pairs] of these
gulls. I found one newly hatched
chick, two nests containing eggs,
some stray infertile eggs + most
of the other young in the 1/2 grown
stage.
One downy young one took to
the sea + became thoroughly
soaked, apparently the down is not
waterproof but the instinct to
swim is very strong.
Pellets contained much lemming
fur.
While I was there the gulls attacked
a parasitic jaeger which I salvaged
seriously disabled.
We saw no young on the wing +
no yearling or 2 year old birds
during our 5 days at Kidliut Bay.
