- Surf Scoter.
8 mi [miles] N. [north] Aklavik June 15/47 [1947].
For the last 3 days large flights of drake
Surf Scoters have been coming in here
The majority of them are landing on
a small lake that has very little
rise + fall. Floods only occassionally [occasionally]
+ has an abundant invertebrate
fauna. Today I saw a mated pair
on a lake across the river from
here. Stayed on the lake even though
disturbed.
Reindeer Station July 13/47 [1947]
Saw a flock of 50 males today +
on [one] of about 70 yesterday.
