  • Foreword The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria is extremely fortunate to have been gifted a magnificent collection of kimonos. These kimonos, which once belonged to the Geisha/Diva Ichimaru of the early to late 20th century, have been donated to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria by Mrs. Fumi Suzuki and Mrs. Yoshiko Karasawa. The richness and beauty of Ichimarus costumes will no doubt be a stunning experience to all who see them. It is both a pleasure and an honour to be able to present this exciting exhibition. We are also delighted to be able to co-ordinate a national tour of these rare and exciting kimonos to share with the rest of Canada. We are veiy grateful to a number of supporters who have made this project possible. The exhibition catalogue has been generously sponsored by the Audain Foundation. The exhibition and national tour was made possible by the financial support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and its Museum Assistance Program. The Art Gallery of Greater Victorias Volunteer Committee has made a generous contribution to this project in memory of Mischa German and Edna Hadfield. We also acknowledge the continued support of the British Columbia Arts Council and the Inter-municipal Committee-Saanich, Victoria, Oak Bay, Esquimalt. I would like to thank and congratulate Barry Till, Curator of Asian Art, for the professionalism evident in this project. He has received invaluable help form the following people: Michiko Warkentyne, Judith Patt and Shirley Collis. Special thanks are due to the staff members who assisted with the co-ordination of this exhibition and tour. Pierre Arpin Director 2
