- [start clipping] GYRO CLUB INSTALLS OFFICERS FOR YEAR --- District Governor Finland Formally Places New Officials in Office --- Officers of the Victoria Gyro Club were installed at the annual banquet of the club in the Empress Hotel Saturday night. E.V. Finland, strict governor of the Gyros, performed the installation ceremony in the absence of Clarence Lougheed, president of Gyro international. Archie Wills, the new president, on formally assuming office forecasted a successful year for Gyro. He thanked the club for reposing confidence in him and hoped that his record at the end of the term would show that this confidence had not been misplaced. Mr. Wills paid a tribute to Archie Muir, the retiring president, whom he congratulated upon his new role with the junior group of the Chamber of Commerce. He also hoped Mr. Lougheed would soon be restored to health. In closing he asked the Gyros to serve Gyro to the best of their ability during the 365 days of the year. FOUNDED ON FRIENDSHIP E.V. Finland, in his installation address, referred to the international character of Gyro. It was founded upon friendship, and the goodwill that is inspired by friendship. The officers installed during the evening were: President, Archie Wills; vice-president Arnold Trevitt; secretary, W. Hudson; treasurer, O.M. Prentice; directors, Sidney Chiverall; Cyril Baker, Aubrey Kent, Arthur Kerr and Dr. Charles Mess. On behalf of the club Roy Manzer made a presentation to Archie Muir, the retiring president, amid cheers and the signing of "He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Several of the guests at the banquet contributed two-minute speeches. TWO GYRO ALDERMEN Mayor Pendray thanked the club for assistance in civic affairs during last year. Not only had the club helped the council in a number of ways but two of the city Aldermen came form its ranks, he said. REpresentatives of various other service clubs brought greetings from their organizations. Representing the Kumtuks, Miss Wigley congratulated the Gyros on the work they had accomplished and urgend them to continue in co-operation and with team work. Rotary and Gyro had much in common said Percy Watson, who tendered the best wishes of the Rotary Club. The two clubs had many times worked together for the benefit of the community. On behalf of the Kiwanis Club, C. Elwood Watkins wished the new officers of the club every success during the coming year. FINE SELECTION Gordon Campbell, bringing greetings from the Kinsmen Club, congratulated the Gyros on their selection of president. He had known the new head for fifteen years and was confident that he would be able to maintain the high standard set by his predecessor. Members of Gyro clubs in Vancouver, Seattle, Tacoma and Portland were guests at the dinner and at its conclusion Gyros and Gyrettes danced to the strains of Gyro Charlie Hunt's Orchestra.
