- Plethodon vehiculum [Western redback salamander]
May 30 [date crossed out] 29 [1942] Cowan [McTaggart Cowan] found one large and
two small specimens of this salamander
under bark while setting traps along
Smith creek. The large one showed
the brown colour phase of the dorsal
stripe as described by Logier. The
other two were more red like those
found on the Island [Vancouver Island].
May 30 [1942] Cowan [McTaggart Cowan] took 2 more Plethodons [underlined];
one in Ascaphus creek canyon (red phase)
and one in woods near highway into
Cultus Lake (brown phase)
