- Field Notes Victoria District SPring 1941
March 14/41 [1941] A large pond about 1/4 mile
north of Langford P.O. [post office] on Mill-
stream road.
Eubranchipus oregonus(?) [Oregon fairy shrimp] - very abundant
- some females carrying eggs
- see Phyllopod notes.
Daphnia pulex [water flea] - very abundant
and very large in size
Copepods -
Ghost larvae [ghost shrimp larvae]
Whirligig beetles
Eggs of Hyla [tree frog]
Also eggs of unknown amphibian
apparently attached to a
dead twig. Eggs very
dark; slightly larger than
large Hyla eggs. Indivi-
dual coats of jelly
obvious but the dozen or so eggs
were in one mass. At first
these were taken to be toad eggs.
[Drawing of eggs on twig]
(April 2nd - newt or salamander larvae
were noted to-day in tray in which above
eggs were placed along with other collections.
It is likely they are hatched from these eggs
(Triturus? [newt]) but may have come from some
other source. Identified as Ambystoma macrodactylum [underlined] [long-toed salamander].
March 15 [1941] Violet-green Swallows noted at Buildings
