June 30/42 [1942] - About 10 miles along
Timothy Lake Rd [road] (North branch) leaving
Highway at Mile 116 (Ogden's Store)
The lake is small (10 acres?) and
of peaty nature. The level has been
artificially raised by damming the
outlet, producing boggy edges.
Dominant vegetation - Scirpus, some
Typha, grass, Myriophyllum (rank[?]), Nuphar,
Lemna trisulca, Hippurus [Hippuris vulgaris - common mare's tail], Ranunculus.
Water is brown in colour making it
difficult to see more than about 3 feet
down. Plankton heavy.
Fishes [underlined] - Rainbows [trout] (none caught)
+ Richardsonius [redside shiner] or Mylocheilus [peamouth] (fry seen)
Caddis larvae in this lake had constructed
cases of Lemna trisulca.
Leeches were present in some numbers.
Amphibia [underlined] - R. pretiosa [Rana pretiosa - Oregon spotted frog]; 2 specimens were
collected in floating masses of Lemna
trisulca; others were seen.
Bufo [toad]; tadpoles numerous
R. cantabrigensis [aka Rana sylvaticus, now known as Lithobates sylvaticus - wood frog]; in meadows around lake,
one collected.
