The Ryogoku Bridge was the oldest and one of the busiest bridges across the Sumida River. It was renowned for its recreation and entertainment as it featured many teahouses, theatres and tea stalls, seen in the foreground of this print.

One of the earliest prints of a Yokohama street scene shows some evidence of foreigners of the Five Nations. There are labourers, women and children, peddlers� carts laden with products as well as a shop in the left foreground with the trademark of the wealthy Mitsui merchant house, which is now Japan�s second-largest trading company.
L�une des premieres estampes d�une scene de rue de Yokohama revele la presence d�etrangers provenant des Cinq nations.
On apercoit des manoeuvres, des femmes, des enfants, des chariots de colporteur charges de produits et une boutique � gauche de I�avant- plan affichant la marque caracteristique du magasin Mitsui devenu la deuxieme plus grande entreprise commerciale du Japon.
