- There was a large flock of
Goldeneye ads [adults] mostly [female symbol]'s but a few
young [male symbol]'s, 54 of these were banded.
With them were perhaps 20 ad [adult]
scaups, mostly males in moult
+ the same number of Buffleheads.
A lone [male symbol] whitewinged scoter
was on the lake.
About 50 ad [adult] flying mallards a few
pintails 5 or 6 shovellor + about
10 teal left the lake as we
started our work.
Hawks seen today were
1 black pigeon hawk.
1 juv [juvenile] redtail
4 sparrowhawks.
1 ad [adult] bald eagle.
Chimney Lake, Aug [August] 8/48 [1948].
Heavy rain in morning but in
PM it dried up enough to permit
us to tackle the small lake
5 miles E [East] of here that we are
calling Chimney Lake Pond. On
it we noted the following
broods. Baldpate + 7
Scaup + 6 (1) Bufflehead + 7
Goldeneye. 24 yng [young] of 2 ages
On the second of the series of 3
ponds are 4 yng [young] Goldeneye.
