  • Pass Lake. July 24, 1949 Drove here from Kamloops today + after a wet night the rain kept off just long enough for us to get our tents up. Then it came on again + rained off + on the rest of the afternoon. On the way up I checked the various small ponds for ducks + saw a total of Blue w. [winged] teal #3's [female symbol] + 8, +11, +6, +7 [illegible number] + 10 adults Mallard #3's [female symbol]'s, + 4, 6, 5, 2. Cinnamon teal 3 [male symbol]'s in eclipse. Goldeneye + 7, 4, 6, 3. Ruddy 5 1's, 7 3's. Coots numerous on the small ponds above Lac du Bois + on McQueen Lake. scarce or absent on the lower ponds. Pass Lake. July 25, 1949. Alastair McLeon came up + together we rode the Watching Creek basin by the trail along its N. [North] side. The eastern end is dominated by Aspen with clumps of Salix Barclayi [underlined] reaching for light + with basal growth killed or badly over used by moose. Jack pine scattered, D.
