Queen Charlotte City
May 22/51. [1951]
Arrived here this P.M. [afternoon] after an
uneventful trip from Vancouver.
Cloudy day presented much view from
the plane.
Set up shop in the Haida Hotel
+ called on Herbert Hammer the
forest ranger. He impresses me
as a knowledgeable, dependable
type of man. Most interested to
find that he is a keen
student of birds + has a small
collection.
Among his specimens are
several very interesting records
including a Lark Bunting taken
at Tatoosh, Bella Coola Valley in
June 1941, a Lazuli Bunting
from the same place
a Screech Owl (kennicotti) red phase
from Terrace
and a yellow bellied flycatcher
from Terrace.
May 23/51. [1951] Spent half the day getting organized
then borrowed a dingy + rowed
over to Maude Island stopping
on several of the smaller islands
en route. Found Guillemots
nesting on all of them, 3 pairs of
