- Deer Study
Hardy Island. April 3, 1943.
[female symbol] fawn of last year. died yesterday
General condition [underlined]:- Very emaciated,
hocks + tail badly soiled, external genital
opening and anal opening congested. No
nasal discharge. Hair scruffy.
Internal Condition [underlined]:- Muscles soft + flabby,
subcutaneous vessels injected. Axillar
+ inguinal lymph glands enlarged about.
1 1/2 times + dark greenish red in color.
Each surrounded by an area of
inflammation about 2-3 cm [centimetres] in
breadth beyond the gland. This seemed
to be associated with the presence of
ticks in adjacent areas.
Liver hard + dark, spleen flaccid
Lungs congested, collapsed + locally
hard to the touch.
Stomach + Intestines full.
Parasites:-
Cephenemyia:- 10 larvae as follows.
2 1st [first] instar in nasal passage.
6 2nd [second] " wandering about
2 3rd [third] " " "
A single one of the last was present
in one of the gutteral pouches. The
latter were inflamed + the closely
adjacent lymph glands enlarged
and dark in color.
