Notes on Lipoptena [underlined]
Three [female symbol]'s discharged black
puparia shortly after removal
from the host. In one
discharge took about 10 seconds.
All three puparia were
black before discharge
+ at "birth" had a small
eliptical white area on each
side just above the site of
row of pores. These areas
became black within a few
hours.
One female discharged a
white larva. Pupation took
about 30 minutes.
Dissected 3 [female symbol]'s taken in copula.
By severing the penis of the male
before dissection + leaving the organ
in the vagina it is possible to
make a quick + effective dissection.
None of the females were
already pregnant as had hitherto
been supposed. The distended
appearance of copulating [female symbol]'s
is caused by the exceptionally
large penis.
See Pattar + Crag. - suggests that
only [male symbol]'s have wings. I don't think so.
