  • Chemainus. Mar. [March] 19/40 [1940]. Dictyolcaulus [underlined] [Dictyocaulus] (lungworm) Very heavy infestation. One individual in trachea just posterior to larynx, larger bronchi contained clusters of them. Smaller bronchi full of them. Perhaps 2/3 of the lung was rendered completely or partially useless by these parasites. Lipoptena [underlined] Moderately abundant, many copulating. I noticed that at least 50% of the copulating individuals had larvae 2 mm [millimetres] long or over in the uterus. Collected 4 active [female symbol]'s within which would be seen black puparia. These discharged the puparia within 5 minutes The deer was still warm + the parasites very active so I am sure the pupation within the parent is normal though I have seen white larvae discharged + pupate externally. All told 8 puparia were obtained from this host.
