- Victoria, B.C. [British Columbia] Dec. [December] 13/39 [1939].
Hard rainstorm with violent winds
all park deer feeding in open behind
shelter of bushes at 12 N [noon]. Doe
was seen to lick water from
back of her fawn. These two are
frequently together now + the buck
has not been noticed to actively
chase either one of them since
the mating took place.
Food. In conversation with supervisor
of Quinsam Forest Project. He states
they found a young [male symbol] fawn in
the bush near the road where it
had been heard bleating off + on
for several hours. It had not
been cleaned after it was born +
had apparently been deserted at
birth. A doe fawn was also
raised by them this summer.
He remarked to me that he
had observed that deer eat fir
almost invariably after willow.
Sometimes he has seen them eat
willow, lie down for a bit +
upon raising go directly to fir.
This confirms my observations
