proceeded. They bounded up the
steep hill at the N. [North] side of
the swamp. - average distance
per bound 7 ft. [feet] + continued
in this gait for about a
mile, passing steadily up
hill into the open fir-salal
slopes. They were feeding when
we overtook + shot them. On
the level jumps were 11-13 ft. [feet]
Antlers. Fork? buck shot had shed
his antlers about 3 weeks previously
The scars were healed with
but a small scale in the
centre of each.
Weights. Fork? buck weighed next
day 78 lbs [pounds] complete, possibly
80-81 lbs [pounds] on the hoof. Viscera
weighed 19 1/2 lbs [pounds] of which stomach,
full, was 9 lbs [pounds].
Doe weighed next day 38 1/2
lbs [pounds], visera [viscera] extra 10 1/2 lbs. [pounds]
blood about 3 lbs [pounds], live weight
about 52 lbs [pounds]. Age of this
doe was about 20 mos. [months]
Breeding She had apparently not bred
previously + was not pregnant.
The udder was virginal,
though she was accompanied by a yearling
buck fawn.
