Census. In woods at 8 AM. saw 11 deer on
5/16 of a section. = 32 per sq. m. [square mile] by
count + calculation.
By track count in relation to
deer seen we made to population
about 25 on the sq. [square] mile.
Bright sun after light snowfall
during night. In open about
12 in [inches] to 18 in [inches] snow, on salal -
fir ridges about 2 to 6 inches.
Deer population mostly in
groups of 2 to 5 on the
ridges where mature fir sheltered
the salal thickets. When
disturbed the groups broke

or more often in pairs.
Deer were active at least until

Gait. In the deeps now jumping was
the usual method of progression
resorted to.
