- June 26/40 [1940]. Duthies, Saltspring Id. [Island]
Fawns. Second doe gave birth
to single fawn on or about
June 14.
When these fawns were
disturbed today (one lot a month
old other one 2 weeks) they
ran actively but without
bounding. They circled + came
back close to the original beds.
The two old does became
very agitated and followed
the fawns by scent, with
their noses within two to
six inches of the ground.
This to me indicates that
the month old fawns at least
had the pedal glands functioning
The mother of the two
weeks old fawn did not
follow it by scent but
trotted about in agitation
giving occssional [occasional] low-
pitched murmuring calls. Fawn
came to her without answering.
Marginalia: Investigate by working histologic study of scent glands.
