  • Chemainus. Mar [March] 19/40 [1940] Parasites (continued) Cephanomyia [Cephenemyia] [underlined]:- 44 present, ranging in size from 10 mm [millimetres] to 35 mm. [millimetres] + in all stages between these. There were none in the nostrils but the crypts below the epiglottis + around the tonsils were full of them. I took 3 from the right lung but it is quite possible they crawled there after death had ensued. The youngest larvae are whitish, the 60 mm [millimetre] size are canary yellow with the bands of dark setae. The 5/8 - 1 in [inch] size are whitish again + the large ones are progressively darker brown. There were two of the brownish ones in this specimen. One of these had rounded up 24 hours after the death of the host, the other one was beginning to do so. Pupation took 48 hours + final dark color was not assumed until 72 hrs [hours]. larvae of 35 mm. [millimetres] became a pupa of 22 mm. [millimetres] Younger larvae wandered about for 4 days then of 6 of them 3 died + 3 attempted (over)
