- Saltspring Island, B.C. [British Columbia] May 23, 1939.
Molt. Large buck is in summer coat
except for a few stray patches
of hair. Young buck is beginning
molt. Does show no signs of
new coat but winter hair
is very ragged.
Diseases. The wart above the eye of
the large buck dropped off during
the winter. The young buck
now has a warty growth on
the left side of his neck.
The other buck nibbles at
this + has removed the skin
from its summit. The young
buck makes no objection
to this.
Antlers. Big buck shed Feb [February] 28.
young " Mar. [March] 20.
The horns of the big buck are
very large basally, the brow
point well developed + the
primary fork showing.
Those of the young one are
about 3 inches long + do not
yet show the fork.
