Parasites:- Deer 6 mos [months], born + raised in captivity
Mallophaga [underlined]:- Extremely abundant, up to
140 per sq [square] inch of body surface.
Particularly numerous on head where they
were even present on the edge of the
muzzle.
Lipoptena [underlined]:- none seen.
Cysticercus tenuicollis [underlined]:- Just one present.
This is interesting because other
deer formerly reared in this pen
had numerous bladder worms.
It is now about a year since
Dunning died + his dog left the
premises. Presuming that it was
this dog that was spreading the tape
worm a maximum of 9-10 months
might be deduced as the infective
period of the eggs. + more likely less
than that. (Check date of Dunnings death)
Moniezia [underlined]:-
One individual, in small intestine,
about 10 inches long.
Oesophagostomum [underlined]:- Very abundant,
about 300 present in cecum. Mostly
large individuals
