- Coldstream, V.I. [Vancouver Island], B.C. [British Columbia] Jan. [January] 4, 1939.
Breeding. [female symbol] #1 had udder enlarged,
nipples large + udder containing
a quantity of serous fluid. This
doe had evidently nursed a fawn
during the previous summer.
Twin pregnancy, embryos
1 1/2 inches long.
[female symbol] #2. a fully adult doe -
about 3-4 years old gave no
indication of a previous
pregnancy, had a single embryo
about 1 1/4 inches long.
[female symbol] fawn, no sign of spermatozoa,
combined testicular volume 10 c.c. [cubic centimetres]
Bedding. Found 4 beds on open hillsides
+ at 3 PM. saw 3 deer bedded
in the sun on open bluff.
Jumped doe + fawn from
beds in salal on moderately
open, s [south]-facing hillside.
One fawn when jumped took
to the water + crossed a narrow
inlet.
Herding. No sign of herding yet.
Calls. A mortally wounded [male symbol] fawn
bleat loudly two or 3 times.
