- Goldstream Lakes., Feb. [February] 22, 1940.
Sky overcast since about 1 PM after
2 perfect spring days. High wind
during night gusting to 40 mph. [miles per hour]
no rain. Wind N.E. [northeast] About 1/4 inch
ice on ponds.
At 7:10, wind 15 to 20 mph. [miles per hour] maintained
until noon then dropping + finally
at 3 PM switching to S.W. [southwest]
Barometer 28:65 steady all day.
Temp [Temperature] 30 [degree symbol] at 7 AM rising to 36 [degree symbol] in
shade in P.M. [afternoon]
Behaviour. Deer easy to approach, came
within 25 yards of them repeatedly
during the day by walking
up or across the wind. Feeding
until between 11 + 12.
Census. Saw 6 deer on hill behind
Porters + adjoining hill W [west] of swamp
Of these 4 were 2 does + 2 fawns
one a doe + another unknown.
On south area saw 2 deer,
1 doe, 2 deer, 2 doe 1 f. [fawn], 2 does.
all on open mature fir + yng [young] 2nd [second] growth areas
