- Cowichan Lake, Jan [January] 31. 1940
Antlers Of the 10 bucks seen two
old bucks had both antlers
+ one spike had one long antler.
Territory. The spike with peculiar
horns still had one antler on -
he was feeding not 200 yards
from the summer beding [bedding]
ground.
A doe with twin fawns
was jumped from the
same gully as the [word crossed out] a doe
with twins occupied all the
previous autumn + winter (1937-38).
Activity. A 7:40 one old buck was
bedded in the open on a mossy
knoll enjoying the first rays
of the sun while chewing his
cud. 200 yds [yards] away two other
bucks were feeding.
At 8:40 the two bucks went
over the hill + the other rose
+ followed.
When I came to the crest
one old buck was bedded on
an W [crossed out] E [east] facing slope - back to a
log, lying on his left side, head
upwind + away from his back
track. Other deer were feeding
