Nicholson + from him learned the details of the Nature
Conservancy.
Under the Lord President of the Council as minister.
are the Agricultural Research Council, the Medical Research
Council + the Scientific + Industrial Research Council
Each is represented + guided by a Privy Council
Committee + financed by Government Grant.
Nature Conservancy is set up under the Agric. [Agricultural] Research
Council Committee but under a different secretary
It was established by the Charter of 1949 under
the National Parks + Access to the Country Act
Part 3. Its employees are not Civil Servants
It operates under a Conservancy Council of 11
members that represent Lay + scientific opinion
There are on it eminent Bot. [Botanists], Zool. [Zoologists], Geol. [Geologists], the chairman
of National Parks, members of the House of Commons + 1
from House of Lords etc. [etcetera] It meets 4 times a year.
Its chairman is now Arthur Duncan
The working Staff consists of a Director General
Max Nicholson, and a Director for Scotland.
WAles will later be divided off.
There is a Committee for Scotland + one for England
+ Wales. A Scientific Policy Committee is now
under the chairmanship of Dr Pursoll [W.H. Pearsall] Author of
Mountains + Moorlands + it also includes Charles Elton
Ford of Oxford, Stears (Geol. [Geology] of Cambridge) etc. [etcetera]
