- The other Research Station is at Fursbrook [Furzebrook] near Bournemouth.
Then there are field stations at Kinlochewe + in the
Penines [Pennines]. At the latter the main study is of
Peat formation. Experiments are being run in
which some peat areas are drained, others saturated
+ the run off pattern compared. The entire peat
cycle is under study.
The legislative situation with regard to
wildlife is very poor. There is not even a
unified bird protection here but this has been
under preparation for 60 years stalled by
government footling [?]. This year the Home Secretary
had a rough ride in both houses for this
+ the matter is under active process.
The Conservancy has powers to coopt land
needed for its purposes. It can also notify any
county planning board that certain areas, indicated
on map, are of importance to the work of the
conservancy. Thereafter the Conservancy must be
consulted on any plans to use these areas.
The Conservancy has power to make bye laws
for its Reserves + can extend these laws over sufficient
surrounding area to protect the purposes of the
reserve etc [etcetera]
If a private right is extinguished compensation
must be made.
