Maguire had a letter from Big Smith a week ago. Smith was on a draft for France, but symptoms of dyptheria necessitated a trip to hospital, vihere he had his adenoids removed. Glad I haven't his ailments. He mentioned having seen Brad, Sandy Wilson, Parteous, Young Smithers,- a P.T.Corpl, now, Allan, Red Bale, and a few others of the old bunch around Shorncliffe, He says Brad came back to camp one night after lights out slightly inebriated, and the sentry tried to stop him with fixed bayonet. Knowing Brad’s usual procedure when spiflioated, you’ll not be surprised to hear that he took the rifle away from the fellow, punched him on the jaw, then went calmly on his way to his tent. Got away with it too’
Am enclosing the box score of the corns champ game. Bake- well must have been in swell form to grab Ed Steele on strikes four times. Patience saw the game, and says that it was a hell cracker. Also enclosing a clipping from the Calgary Herald which speaks for itself. Modesty always was one of C-unn’s virtues. Selby was mentioned in despatches also, but he made it quite clear on parade that it was for the work the unit had done, not for any particular act of his.

Bear Mother and £ad, -
I know that I am several days late with this letter, but when I tell you that I’ve slept in four different villages since I last wrote, you’ll understand the reason. It is just a question whether this last stop will be of any duration. Sincerely hope so, for we are in very comfortable quarters? But more of that anon.
Will hark back a few days and fill a page or so with a narrative of what occurred out of the ordinary routine in the village where we rejoined the unit.
We hit there just at noon, and in time to get in on a good dinner-- boiled beef end fine new spuds. Pound no room in the hit where the rest of the boys were billeted, so eight of us managed jto pry a bell tent out of our estimable QM« S, and erected it back of tne Canteen marq'uee..
