Yours 1 oving,

P.S.
The thought Just struck me that in a way I owe you an apology for the wey in which I’ve neglected- or seemingly neglected- to remember your respective birthdays, wedding anivereary, etc. You have no idea how hardit is to keep track of day® end dates over here. It i» very very seldom that I can tell off hand the day of the week. As for the date, well if I didn’t have a diary would be lost entirely. So please don’t blame me too much.
Also my indelible pencil is getting short. And a few pair of good thick tough laces would, come in handy, I have a pair of knee boots and it takes a pair of laces for each boot. And also I wonder if you could send us a couple of sweaters with roll top necks. The army issue is none too warm for winter wear, end besides has a V neck. If possible I’d like them fairly heavy, good and heavy in fact. We were issued with our winter underwear yesterday, so * haven't ay wants in that line.
Rather an elongated p,S. isn’t it? And rather a long list of wants. But gee, a fellow wants to be as comfortable as possible this winter.
Will have a quit now, and drop Gus a few lines.
Love to all,
FRED

Dear Mother and Dad, -
Rather an unusual hour to be writing letters,- 8,30 A.M,- but in these unsettled times a fellow can’t afford to be too particular. That I am able to write at such an hour is due to the fact that I played in a football game yesterday, and it being the first one of several months, all the team were given the morning off. No two ways about it, being an athlete pays in the long run.
The team we played egainst was one representing a O.C.S. It is located across the line in Belgium some twelve kilos from here, and we made the journey there in a horse ambulance. As per usual,
I had the job of tending goal, and in view of the fact that we won by 2 to I, may say that I played a fair game. They pressed pretty in the second half and I had quite a few nasty shots to handle, but managed to keep the net from bulging. Twice their center forward charged me in the second half when I was handling the ball. The first time I side stepped and he tripped over my foot in his rush.
