Game warden S. Hayes sent in
a grouse with both legs badly
infected with Cnemidocoptes mutans [underlined].
Clinton B.C. [British Columbia] Oct. [October] 24, 1938.
K. [Kenneth] Racey sent in feet of grouse
heavily infested with C. [Cnemidocoptes] mutans [underlined]
typical "showshoe" extensions from
back of tarsi.

Grouse sent in by S. Hayes.
had right foot deformed by
C. [Cnemidocoptes] mutans [underlined] until it resembled
a human hand with but
the stumps of the fingers
remaining. Left leg not quite
so badly infected. Area size of
50 c [cents] piece on keel of sternum
also infected. This bird could
not possibly have survived
the winter.
Stomach of this bird contained
50% leaves of red clover, 50% leaves
of hawkweed dandelion.
