Pt L G. Destrube no 1235
no 5 [illegible] - 6th Btn - - Royal Fusiliers
Duke of York School
Dover Sept [9?]
Dear Guy & Paul
You will be surprised to see, by the above address,
that I did not go to Edinburgh as I expected. A new
arrangement has come in force. The 29th RT will no
longer be a feeding battalion for ours & others. All
even numbered RF's will go to the 6th Btn & odd
numbered of the 5th RF, both of which are at Dover
Therefore the 22nd will be fed from this - the 6th Btn but
it will also feed many R.F., & so my chance of getting
back with you two will be much harder, though not
impossible because I can always get you, as brothers, to
claim me. But I'm not quite fit enough yet to
go out with a first draft, so I shan't see you just
yet awhile.
I was sorry in a way, not to have gone to Edinburgh,
I would have met many old friends there, no
doubt. I met "Corkey" Holmes down her & right
pleased I was to see him. He gave me all the news
up to the time he left (wounded at the waist). He says
you were both with him when it happened & he told
me about the [Vimy?] Bridge business & of Cliffords
behaviour & of Guy's demand for explanations & Guy's
[conditions?] at the [time?]. Unfortunately he knows nothing
of recent events but I was thankful to hear what little
he could tell me. I was sorry to hear about the many
who fell, some especially of course, like poor old Robinson.
I wonder what you are doing these days
whether in the trenches or out, or in any heavy
fighting. We've had so little news of you lately.
Our camp here is in the grounds of an old
military school. For the present I will be in one
of a bunch of huts - the ordinary military hut.
We don't have to do much, but are kept busy
