- Canada Goose. [underlined]
Talbot Lake. May 23, 1946.
Today made a waterfowl survey of
the western end of Talbot Lake - east
to mile 19. Found 3 goose nests,
1. One with 3 eggs + a nest containing
no down. One a tussock on an islet
2 Another containing 4 eggs in a down
lined nest.
3 A third contained 7 eggs in a down
lined nest on top of an old beaver
lodge. All these clutches hard set.
2 broods of downies 5 in each
brood.
May 24/46 [1946].
Checked the eastern half of Talbot Lake
+ found 12 goose nests. 11 of these
had hatched + one had apparently been
robbed. Also saw a brood of 6, one
of 2, 1 of 5 and one of unknown
size.
In most instances an islet supported
just one nest but one large
islet had 2 nests 110 yds [yards] apart
Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] May 31/46 [1946]
At big meadow at Decoigne saw
12 pairs of geese definitely mated
but behaving as it they had had
their nests flooded out. One pair
has a nest in the Osprey nest
at mile 13.
