- Nothing on the spit today but peeps + 1 Ruddy Turnstone. Write Mr H. Bevan at Sandspit re [regarding] weasels + marten skulls. Sandspit. Aug. [August] 29/46 [1946]. Spent all day on photography + botanizing the airstrip area + adjacent beach. Took specimens of the dominant sea weeds + of the major floral elements of the adjacent debris + grassland areas. Two species of fleshy plants are common among the log debris In the grasslands a species of Fragaria is common, Campanula casual and the seed heads of earlier flowering annuals are noteable. The grass is growing on a thin soil over a pebble beach deposit, + available summer water is almost nil. Shrubby vegetation consists of snow berry + one or two species of Rosa. Aug [August] 30/46 [1946]. In AM. [morning] patrolled spit with poor results then caught the boat for Charlotte City - Spent the night there + in the morning returned to Sandspit via launch to Alliford Bay. Charlie [Charles J.
