Between the top of the gorge
+ camp jumped a doe Black
tail in summer pelage.
Rabbits very common. One
sat quite still, but not
squatted in the 'freezing'
position, until I was within
3 ft [feet] of it, both of us being
in the open. Saw another
single doe (yearling?) in
the evening.
Sept [September] 23. [1931] Hunted the south western
end of the plateau with
no success. We saw a doe
with two fawns. Doe
in summer pelage but
fawns in winter pelage
+ no longer showing spots.
Saw where deer had
been eating the frosted
leaves of Veratrum viridi
In afternoon hunted the
northwestern corner of
the plateau without seeing
game of any sort.
