- May 24. [1932] In morning went along the grade
to the gorge in the Abhau, where
Pat [Patrick McTaggart Cowan] shot a fine male rabbit.
The testes of this beast were greatly
enlarged. Some of the [female symbol]s taken
a week ago had embryos about
3/4 grown.
In the afternoon crossed the river
+ headed through the bush till we
struck the old blazed trail + then
followed it for 6 or 7 miles
up river along the old grade. Saw
several porcupines, a large doe
mule deer + tracks of moose
deer, bear, coyote, fox + Porky [Porcupine].
On the way back watched a fine
bull moose feeding below us
on a flat by the river it
spent quite a time licking a
burnt stub. Was in good
coat with a very dark mane.
Horns were very short only a
few inches long.
Crossbills, W. [Western] Tanager, Calliope Hummer [Hummingbird]
Kingfisher, Sp. [Sparrow] Hawk seen.
