- June 7 [1932] Traps took 9 Drummonds vole,
1 dusky shrew + one masked shrew
Pat [Patrick McTaggart Cowan] climbed to the Redbreasted
Sapsuckers nest + found
young in it. Took another of
those new warblers + saw 2
more. all males, have not been
able to see any females yet
though I have looked hard
for them.
Spent all day skinning. In the
evening while we were making
a specimen box a flying squirrel
came into camp + I shot it
June 8. [1932] Flying squirrel was a large
nursing female. Found the nest
within 25 ft [feet] of camp. About
5 ft [feet] from the ground in a little
spruce grove. The nest had a
framework of twigs + large
strips of willow bark. Inside
this was a ball of leaves +
finer willow bark with a
little dry grass woven in.
The interior was lined with
the inner bark of willow
shredded very fine. The whole
