Modernism and Post-War Literature Collection
User Collection Public
The Modernism and Post-War Literature Collection is comprised of works created by authors associated with modernism, a literary movement with contested dates, but largely regarded as taking place between 1910 and 1940. Authors featured here include Mary Butts (1890-1937), Robert Graves (1895-1985), James Joyce (1882-1941), Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957), and Ezra Pound (1885-1972), as well as writers who produced work following WWII, such as Aidan Higgins (1927-2015), identified as late modernists or influenced by modernism.
Intellectuals and artists affiliated with parallel movements in other disciplines during the same period, such as modern art, are also found in this collection, as seen in the correspondence of Herbert Read (1893-1968) and photography of Gisèle Freund (1908-2000).

Down in café talk with Castañer who will call. Gelat in bed with grano . The Junyers gave us a Holbein engraving of Sir Thomas Wyatt – the very one I had asked Honor to get.

At Margarita Mateu's bought Mesquida curtains, long, yellow brown, – green damask hanging and some pieces of silk and an ancient spoon & fork — and 6 watercolour pictures by Trajani of Mallorquin scenes eighteenth-century for 1600 pesetas. Mulet nearly got them for his museum. They had been in Margarita's family for for ages. (Also got 10,000 p[ts] for G. to pass on.) Paid ( Focus 275.) Bought Judgement of Solomon for 15p[ts]. Laura to dentist; ordered gold plate. Tea with Sch & Str at Palma. Bought yeast for G's grano . Found telegram from L.H. appreciating, & money royalty accounts from A.B. & H.S.
