Evo Research Station, Oct [October] 1/52 [1952].
We left Suomo yesterday at 6 AM +
drove all day around Piclenen Lake.
up the E. [east] side with a step at Lieksa
then on to Nurmes + south to Koli
the highest spot in S [south] Finland, about 1000 ft [feet]
Here we had an excellent lunch + then
proceeded to Kuopio where we left
our car + able guide Hiltounen. There
also we visited the public museum
+ saw in it 3 rare Linneaus [Linnaeus]. Another book
of note was a colored plate copy of a book,
Avifauna Svecia by Wilhelm + Ferdinand Wright.
Also met a very interesting + talented
old artist Matti Karppanen + saw a lot
of his work. He has a very high reputation
here - almost a Finnish Audubon.
