found the bird perched on a fallen tree.
This bird was collected as No [number] 527 + found
to be a [female symbol]. Stomach empty. Checked
Colouring of this [could be juv?] carefully immediately
after death + before fading could take place
+ found the under wing coverts a beautiful
clear pink + the head gray with but few
white spots showing.

Rainbow [Lodge] a pigmy [pygmy] answered a call but would
not approach. Later in afternoon Stewart +
Allan heard one about mile 39. 19 E [east] hy [highway]

several times to call near [illegible word]
but would not approach.
Jan [January] 11/38. [1938] Allan Brooks says Pinicola [underlined] [female symbol]
[illegible word] have wing of at least 100mm. [millimeters] + that
Californicus [underlined] averages smaller than Pinicola.
