- ornithologist + is just back from collecting in South America. I find that Skunke + a young german Prof. [Professor] Dr. Wolf Herre of Kiel, Zoological Institute, Germany are collaborating on a large scale study of the changes wrought in Reindeer by domestication. He tells me that all males over 4 yrs [years] are castrated to make them more manageable. The Museum has some very fine material + in general it is in good condition + well stored, though this study specimen preparation leaves much to be desired. Among the rarities are a partial skeleton of a Dodo. A great auk, an eskimo curlew + some dozen other rare + vanishing species Calif. [California] Condor + Ivory billed woodpecker among them. The collection has some half dozen Argali skulls + one Palli + one or two Ovis nivicola borealis. A great many African + S [South] Amer. [American] things All Lonneborg's types are here but I find that many are based on the flimsiest grounds + very inadequate material. I measured up 3 specimens of Cervus elaphus atlanticus [underlined] from Hittern Island. + find that the type is not marked as such. Also measured the Only specimen (adult)
