- His island stocks are larger + more tractable
than the mainland animals + so far he has
had little success mating the two strains while
all the island strains seem to mate without
trouble.
He has 105 litters so far in 3 years.
Stevens has quite a surplus of
certain mammal skulls + will be pleased to
exchange with me.
Garry [Cowan] slept 14 hours last night + stayed in bed
today but his cold seems almost gone.
Aug [August] 23/52 [1952]Went to meet Daniel + Molly [Mackenzie] at Almondfork
Daniel [Mackenzie] + [illegible word crossed out] Bryan [Brian Mackenzie] met us at Perth + drove us
to the house. The day started out with
broken cloud but unfortunately clouded
in so that once again my attempts at
photography were frustrated. After lunch
we drove up Glen Almond, across the high
moorland + had our tea by the side of
Loch Macreigh [?]. A beautiful bit of moorland
with a dense grouse population. Saw my
first red grouse here. Active moor
management for grouse was in force
here + burned areas of various ages were
much in evidence. I took several photos
to illustrate the type interspersion. Took
them at 1/50 f [f-stop] 5.6 + color at 1/525 f [f-stop] 4.
The photos I took at Tynron are only fair. The
