- Underglaze Blue (and Red)
i Vase h: 25.5 cm, early Kangxi (1662-1722)
This slender baluster vase, painted in underglaze blue, has a design of two birds perched on gnarled flowering prunus, pine and bamboo branches. The neck is decorated with rocks, flowers and a dragonfly. The characters on the shoulder read Written in the winter at Ruigu Hall by the hermit of Taoxia, followed by two seal marks. There is a splashed border on the shoulder and foot, which is characteristic of this period, and a six-character Chenghua mark on the base.
