Blue Creek. Aug. [August] 22/43. [1943]
Census:- Cow + calf around cabin -
took photos.
Calf:- Now well grown + in complete
dark pelage almost identical with
that of [female symbol]. except perhaps head a bit
paler. This calf was born on
June 9 or 10 close to the cabin
here.
Food:- Watched both animals feed for
1/2 hour. Ate nothing but willow.
Remarks:- Saw a cow alone close to
the cabin in mid afternoon. If
this was the same cow as seen with
a calf later in the evening I may
not be safe in assuming
that there is no calf when a
lone female is seen. Note for
future reference.
Hoodoo Cabin. Aug [August] 23/43 [1943]
Census [underlined]. Coming from Blue Creek Cabin saw
3 [male symbol] + 3 [female symbol] moose in lakes near trail
Food:- Noted moderate utilization of Shepherdia
leaves. Up Blue Creek at Topaz v to
a lesser extent along todays trail
Balsam had been heavily browsed.
5 of the moose seen today were feeding
on some water weed.
Enemies:- [Warden Bob] Jones 2 yrs [years] ago at Hoodoo Creek saw a grizzly
running a cow + calf moose. Another time
