Food + Crop damage [underlined] Deer eating large numbers
of carrots, some potatoes,
brussel sprounts, kale, turnips
but do not eat cabbage when
other garden truck is available.
Game warden [R.] Hayes reports
extensive tulip damage in the
spring.
Crop protection. Freshly skinned deer hide,
offal or an old coat
work to keep deer off a
garden for short periods.
Naphtha works for two
to 3 weeks only. The best
deterrent so far used here
has been the electric fence.
Disease. [R.] Hayes had a doe swim
ashore at Maple Bay in very
weakened condition. This
animal had a large "ulcer"
discharging on one side of its
jaw + one not discharging
in a similar position on
the opposite side.
