Frank Wells tells me that he found
3 pet deer killed by coyotes within
200 yards of his cabin last
fall when he returned from
his holidays.
In March this year near Willys
Ranch George Wells had a deer
pursued by 5 coyotes run right
up to him. He stoned the coyotes
for 20 minutes or more before
they left + all the time the
deer stayed with him.
Frank Wells found one instance
of an adult doe pulled down
by one coyote + several pounds
of meat eaten from its haunch
while it was still living. The
deer had been flanked + its
intestines let out.
Interpredator competition.-.
Last winter Frank Wells was watching
a coyote feeding upon a dead elk
when an eagle stooped at the
coyote. The eagle was quickly
joined by another + both attacked
