  • July 30 [1961] Partly sunny, windless Caught 5 dead, 2 live mice, 2 dead shrews, and Frank [Banfield] one shrew. All dead mice immature, 3 being <15 gms [grams], typical grey[underlined]-brown. One of larger immatures black phase + donated to Frank Banfield. In early afternoon we heard a plane, and for the hundredth time scrambled out on the beach to have a look. We spotted the Cessena [Cessna] as a speck flying north, way inland. Perhaps it was Joe, without a map as usual, looking for Hippa A half hour later, flying south, the Cessena [Cessna] flew directly overhead at 2000'. Flashing mirror wouldn't work without sun, + of course the [there] was a cloud overhead at that moment. To our extreme amazement, the plane kept flying - straight south. Frank [Banfield] ready to go up the wall (- + over) About 4 pm the Beaver + Joe finally blew in - too buisy [busy] to get us Friday - weather bad Saturday. Back to Charlotte for bath + clean up.
