Fox Sparrows. [underlined]
Oct [October] 31, 1935. I have made particular search
for Fox Sparrows on all my
field trips this year. So far the
most regular place of occurrence
has been the broom filled gravel
pit 1/4 mile West of Esquimalt
Lagoon. They have been present
on each of 3 visits to the place
The last visit being Oct. [October] 24, 1935.
Apart from this locality I have
found them in thick second
growth conifer + deciduous tangles
along the margins of man made
clearings. Railroads, trails, abandoned
fields + roadways. I have yet to
find one in salal undergrowth.
They are very elusive, + though
answering an owl call, seldom
approach within easy shot.
