Jasper, Alta. [Alberta] Dec. [December] 18/44 [1944]
Below Windy Point there was as bad
a sandstorm as I have seen in
a long time. visibility was reduced
to about 200 yards on many occasions
Much of the sand was coming
off Jasper lake but I think
at least as much was coming
from the overgrazed bluffs
along the valley.
Bird notes:- At Devona saw 6 Crossbills
3 whisky Jacks, 10 Hudsonian Chickadees, in
two groups, and a small party of
Redpolls. On the way there saw
a magpie + a Clarke's crow.
Jasper Alta [Alberta] Dec. [December] 19/44 [1944]
Overcast with east wind 20-40 mph [miles per hour]. light snow
flurries Temp [Temperature] 8 AM. - 15 [degree symbol] at 6 pm 20 [degree symbol]
Climbed Old Fort Point + watched a band
of sheep there for an hour + a half
then hiked around hill + back to car
Much coyote sign around remains
of recent ram kill. Several piles of
bearberry beneath boulders each with the
seeds neatly shelled out.
At 3 PM went onto Edith Lake
flats + at 4 PM to 4 mile benches
where I spent an hour + a half with
the sheep of that band.
