across I shot it + it fell into
the water. When I first shot it
dropped the squirrel + ran
but after scouting around a bit
it came back for it. 208 ticks
mostly nymphs but some of all stages.
7 squirrels from Jack pine area
free. 2 in bottom land free.
I noticed a peculiar attitude
assumed by the squirrels when
sunning themselves on a very
hot day. They lie flat on
a branch, chin to tail touching
branch all way along. The front
legs are allowed to hang down
on each side + a grip of the
side of the branch is taken
by the back feet. The tail
is held perpendicularly from
the body + flat against the
trunk of the tree. 4 of 5 sqrs. [squirrels]
were seen in this pose on
this particular day.
July 8. [1929] 2 squirrels had 3 + 4 ticks. They
were feeding on fir cones.
