- July 10, 1948. Lac La Hache
Spent today banding on Hour-glass
Lake at Mile 148. Set up trap on
N.E. [Northeast] end of large lake + drove the
lake twice. Results are tabulated in
the banding record.
Saw no grebes with young, set of coot
just hatching. Peregrine stooped twice
at the ducks but did not kill.
July 12, 1948. Lac La Hache.
Showery overcast day. Went to Watson
Lake where we saw
5 broods Barrows Goldeneye, 6, 4, 2, 7, 7.
5 " Bufflehead 6, 6, 8, 5, 11
1 " Redhead 7
1 " Greenwing teal 7.
Set a banding trap + banded
34 birds. All but one goldeneye
+ bufflehead.
About 12 or 15 black swifts
came over the lake low down,
I shot one of them.
Several tree + violet green swallow
also present. 4 prs [pairs] black necked
grebes.
Heard a sandhill crane calling
from the west side of the lake.
